SO lovely to see these special people again. Last week’s unique project couldn’t have happened without the enthusiasm & deep friendship of the custodians and curators of some truly magnificent palaces, churches & Diocesan libraries.

This Mantova friendship goes back 18 years, when I first sent @charterhousesch chapel choir - & then a choir almost every year since. They were in the eye of the storm when Covid hit Europe 4 years ago, and have suffered an inordinately huge number of close losses, but it’s wonderful to see them back in action & the city looking so vibrant.

Acoustic perfection doesn’t get much better than this. The combo of Joy Hill’s wonderful Vigala Singers (alumni of @rcmlondon JD) performing in a space which was built with musical one-upmanship & general dynastic superiority in mind, shows us that the Gonzagas are still winning. (Those architectural lines are still inspiring acoustic designers today).

Pretty special too that alongside music of court composer Monteverdi, which 4 centuries ago was fresh off the page in this venue, today we had three contemporary composers present & witnessed their premiers; world premiers from @gabrielcomposer & LiciaMari both written for this venue & this choir), & an Italian premier from
@mcdowall.cecilia

Now, that’s pretty special.
